Hi everyone,
How many of you feel overwhelmed at the idea of doing something to change the world? Like you want to do something, but you don't know what to do? Or perhaps you have ideas but don't know where to begin or how get started? Or maybe it feels to you like changing the world is such a huge proposition that it's just not something you're capable of.
Here are my thoughts on that.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. What we send out comes right back to us. We reap what we sow. Call it physics, call it karma, call it biblical wisdom...it's all the same thing.
When we throw a pebble into a pond it creates ripples on the surface. What we observe is that those ripples move outward and get bigger and become more far reaching as they travel. What we don't see is what happens beneath the surface. And yet, we know that more than just the surface is affected when we toss that pebble don't we? Some might call that faith - the ability to believe in that which can not be immediately seen.
Whatever you choose to call it, everything we do affects somebody somewhere, because all is interconnected.
We have all been profoundly affected by Michael's passing. While everyone's experience is unique, those experiences also share a common undercurrent. Unilaterally, every one of us has reported having a different understanding or way of expressing love than we did before he left us.
So what we must remember is that even though we're hurting and moving through the grieving process and some feel stuck and uncertain about what the future holds...we have already begun to change the world. All change begins with self. That's what Man in the Mirror was about.
You see, through the simple choice of being more loving to others, we are changing the landscape on a global scale at it's most fundamental level - energy. We can see some of the surface results of that already.
Poetic Owl cast the first pebble upon the water when she posted at YouTube with the pure and simple intent of helping others. A ripple was formed. And as it moved outward, touching people as it went, a group of people were brought together. Both individually and as a group, we began to cast our own pebbles. And while the initial ripple that Owl created continued to move outward, more and more new ripples were being formed as more pebbles were being cast.
Connections were made and the forum was born. More and more people are finding us every day and the healing continues. How are they finding us? This is a result of what's happening beneath the surface...those ripples we cannot see until we see their results bubble to the surface.
Owl's simple act of love has changed the world. Our participation in what she began has changed and will continue to change the world.
Because...you see...changing the world is not about creating huge shifts in consciousness or doing things on a grand scale. It is about creating change one ripple at a time, and trusting the ripples we create to go forth and do their own thing and return back to us the most unexpected and surprising consequences.
We look to Michael and we see the huge and sweeping changes he made, and while we must allow ourselves to be inspired by him, we must not compare ourselves to him. Michael never did anything small. Part of that was about who he was...it was just his nature to do things on a huge scale.
But he was also capable of it. He had the tools and the resources and the connections to make that happen. Right now, all we have is ourselves. It is important to get still inside and know that each of us is enough. And as a group, we are more than enough.
Often overlooked were the little things Michael did. When I say he never did anything small, I mean that consciously he never did anything small. Everything he did on a conscious level held a thousand percent of his heart and soul. But there were many, many things he did that were just little things that he had put no thought into. For example, the tape on his fingers. He didn't do that to make a statement or change the world. To my knowledge, we don't know why he did it, just that he did it.
And look what happened. People started wearing tape on their fingers all over the world. They took what Michael did and made it a fashion.
A skeptic might say...big deal? How did that change the world? To see the answer to that question, one must look past the ripples on the surface and find the deeper truth. You see, when everyone began to tape their fingers, in this very small way they also began to come together. The tape on the fingers became a symbol for something much larger - the energy of unity.
Unity - like mind, like thought, like action....it changes the world in ways that individual action cannot, and yet it all began with one person, with a single action...a single ripple. Interesting how that works isn't it?
So when you find yourself saying...I really want to help change the world, but I don't know where to start...think back on this and know....you already have. And you still are in this moment.
By allowing your love for Michael to change you on the inside, which inspires you to in turn share your love with others, by being more loving, more compassionate, more understanding...you are changing the world. All is interconnected. Pluck a string on a web and it vibrates as a whole. Nothing exists in a vacuum.
When change happens within, it's like plucking that string on that web or casting a pebble upon the water. It sends energy forth, and that energy comes back to us. As it does, we become inspired to do more and more.
In thinking...what more can I do? Where can I go from here? Know that the answer lies not in a grand gesture, but in a simple question: What pebble can I cast today?
Peace
