Dear MJ’s Army,
Imagine my surprise to come across a very long, personal letter written by Michael to a fan. To know that it’s posted somewhere on the net, and I happened to find it by accident! I don’t know exactly when it was written, who he wrote to, or what the fan wrote first… all I know is he was living at Neverland with his children at the time.
As I started to read it, the realization came to me that Michael would have written this! As I read, I started to sob… he first railed against wars, innocent children dying and all the agony in the world. But then he lamented over what people in general thought of him. He hated wearing the masks. He sometimes hated what he saw when he woke up from plastic surgeries. He dreaded looking in mirrors… he couldn’t cope with his face He couldn’t cope with himself! He missed the sunlight so much, having to go out most times at night… he was sick and people didn’t consider that.
All the horrible pain, the frustration, the torment… I could barely read it through my sobs. I had absolutely no idea to what extent he was so tortured, so saddened and depressed… how much the name calling affected him, how many times he cried. He couldn’t understand how people could love his music, and hate him at the same time. He had made these records that made people so happy… he quoted Billie Jean, and yet he was hated! He believed so many people wanted him to be guilty, more than anything.
He even asked if we would prefer it that he was dead! That he had never existed! But then how could we find such joy in his music? This is what he questioned of us. All he ever wanted was to make people happy, to help others. It was his purpose.
When I finished, I tearfully called out to Michael and asked if he really wrote it. Yes he did.
My decision is not to share this letter here, or anywhere. It’s not mine to share, and I feel it’s too private, way too sacred. I even asked the one who published it to take it down, because it could be used against Michael. I know I have no right to ask, but I tried at least. I'm just worried that Michael’s heartfelt letter gets into the wrong hands, meaning that it gets out at all. Can you imagine what the media would do with it? How they would put their own slant on it, to rip Michael apart yet again?
Now if Michael’s letter was presented in such a way that validated everything in it, that would lead to this situation reaching a whole different conclusion, one that the world would have no other option to do but embrace. But I have no proof that it would happen that way. The world deserves to finally know the truth to clear his name, to learn what a wonderful man he was, but not like this. My wish is that his letter remains secret.
What are your feelings about this?
