NO! It is not Michael's voice on Breaking News! Don't get me wrong, I like the song and especially the message. I really wish it was Michael singing on this song from the Eddie Cascio recordings, but it is NOT!
Please go read the thread about this under the Rants board, and then YOU decide!

The demo version of ‘Breaking News’ streaming this week at mj.com is NOT the final version that will appear on the ‘Michael’ CD. Rest assured MJ’s genuine lead vocals will be the on this project and no one elses.

We finally have an answer to this most mysterious controversy! After all the ranting we've been doing (check Rants) and that includes me leading the way, asking the question... If it's Michael singing on the three Cascio tracks, why doesn't it sound like Michael? Here is why: www.billboard.com/news/michael-jackson-songs-needed-considerable-1004134604.story#/news/michael-jackson-songs-needed-considerable-1004134604.storyTeddy Riley explains he had to over-process Michael's voice using Melodyne technology (whatever that is!) and that is why we hear over-processed vibrato. This makes SO MUCH SENSE! I wish that Teddy would have explained this before, but at least he finally did. So there we have it, the truth. It's Michael's voice.

I was one of those who always said that Breaking News sounded like Michael to me. I don't know which of the two other ones on the album that were suspect as being fake. Is it Monster and Hollywood Tonite? I know there were three that were done with the Cascios in New Jersey in 2007. I am glad that Teddy Riley has offered more of an explanation for the sound quality that was heard. I wonder if the device mentioned is like that autotune they talk about using a lot lately for some singers? I don't think Michael needed any help staying in tune though I am happy that the album is doing well!!

Hi Alicia, the 2 other songs in question are Monster and Keep Your Head Up. The controversy started because it sounds more like an impersonator (Jason Malachi, for instance) than Michael. The album is doing AMAZINGLY well, already going double Platinum in Europe. So the Sony boycott has had NO effect Go Michael! Mal

I don't think these songs EVER sounded more like a Jason Malachi or a James Porte or any one but Michael. I think that most of it was spurred on by the twitter comments of Michael's nephews, and a lot of people just ran with it. I am glad that a lot of the controversy has died down now, though.

Hi Mary Ann and All, I have to admit that I now understand where a lot of the fans and many here on this board were or are coming from concerning the Michael controversy. I just didn't get it before. I now FINALLY understand what the controversy about some of the songs was about. I finally listened to some of J.Malachi's vocals last night and I see what people were referring to in regards to the similar tone and vibrato used there and on the songs which were/are in question on Michael. So, I finally "get it" Sometimes it takes me a while, lol. I will admit that at first I was adamant that there was no way they were at all fake. I still hope that this is true, but I can TOTALLY see where others were coming from now!! I want y'all to know that! I am just glad that my fav songs are not the ones that were/are in question. I love Much Too Soon and Behind the Mask a lot. I love the sweet vocals on MTS and I love the fiery vocals on BTM!!Those are my top 2 for now. And I hope that in the future Sony will NOT accept ANY songs without there being thorough documentation that the are Michael and there should be NO Melodyne used ever!! Michael's voice should not be altered!! But I just wanted to say that I understand the controversy a lot more now and I understand what a lot of you guys, and the nephews, were saying. I just could not "hear it" before, but now I can For some reason I felt I was "defending" Michael, but I realize that the fans and family who felt differently felt that they were also defending Michael, too. It just shows how much we love and care for Michael I am glad that I can change and learn new things all the time and I guess this may be one of those times for me! Hope we can all be friends, and I am glad this site is here so we can discuss these things. In my family and circle of friends and coworkers, there is not anyone with whom I can discuss Michael's music and life and what it means to me.

I'm not saying that I think it is J. M. singing lead on the songs or anyting, but I was amazed at how well he "copies" MJ's voice. I don't think it has MJ's "fire" though. But I am no expert!! I really am enjoying the new album!

Alicia, so glad you "get" what some of us have been so concerned or upset about! Thanks for admitting it too... it takes a big person to admit that you now see the other side of the argument. All it took was to listen to Jason Malachi sing... I agree he does a good job to imitate Michael, but there really is NO comparison. Now you understand why when the family heard the Cascio songs, they thought right away it wasn't Michael, but we now know why, because his voice was mechanically altered. As soon as I heard Breaking News, I was adamant that it was NOT Michael singing, but since then I stand corrected. I'm fine with admitting I was wrong... hey I can't always be right It's times like this that I'm so glad we have this forum to express our opinions, without fear of being bashed. We can't all think alike, so when others disagree with our opinions here, everyone should know our comments should always be made with love and respectfully. Always! So feel free to disagree anytime L.O.V.E. Mal

Thanks Mal. I am glad that I learned more about it, and can now see the issue and understand it better. When I heard J.M. sing, I was like "Wow, I see what they are talking about now!" It is a good feeling to learn something new. I am so glad this forum is here for discussion and learning!! Thanks so much!!
