The 500 team recently sent out this email:
NME is a serious music publication in the UK that currently is soliciting votes for the greatest popular singers of all time:
www.nme.com/ratemy/216512/greatest-singers-of-all-time
NME is known as an Indie Rock bible. They fully supported Jarvis Cocker back when he ridiculed Michael Jackson live onstage during his performance of Earth Song. This is why we want Michael Jackson to win--to send a message.
Apparently you can vote as often as you wish (design flaw, anyone?) but the contest closes on June 20. Once we get MJ to #1, the hard work begins--we want MJ to have a significant lead and for there to be no doubt in anyone's mind who's in first place by then—Michael Jackson!
But today it seems NME has announced MJ is overtaking Freddie Mercury, which has galvanized FM fans to such an extent that he and MJ are in a dead heat. If the reverse had occurred, would NME have felt similarly compelled to report it and galvanize MJ fans, we wonder?
Furthermore, Eminem has asked his 38M Facebook fans to vote for Freddie Mercury. We have nothing at all against Freddie—we love him in fact—but this is outrageous. We think Freddie would have understood what we're trying to do. Unfortunately, the way this thing is rigged, it is important to rate Freddie a "1" as well as MJ a "10". That is undoubtedly what FM/Eminem fans are doing to MJ.
This is an emergency shout out. The numbers at the site are moving rapidly. Voting, multiple times if possible, until June 20, makes an important positive statement about Michael's creative contribution that is every bit as beneficial to his public image and legacy as other kinds of vindication. We want to put publications like NME on notice that the greatest musicians aren't necessarily those that they've anointed for no discernible reason.
Please do what you can and vote at:

We need a clear lead, so please keep at it!

So you see, this time it isn't just some silly contest. Michael's name and legacy are at stake here... NME would HATE to see Michael win so it's up to us to make sure that he does, to prove to them not only that he's the greatest vocalist ever, but that he still have millions of fans around the world who have his back!
I and a few others have been voting like mad for over a week now, and he finally made it to #1. But we need to KEEP him there, so PLEASE join our cause, for Michael! By the way, the 500 says to vote for Freddie Mercury picking the first star, but I say DON'T vote for him at all. Just click on the link for Michael, then click on the 10th star under his picture, and repeat! Another good trick is to open a few browser tabs, and then practice tab surfing! It works great Thank you so much!
Justice for Michael!
