Here's an excellent youtube vid on how to organize and carry out a local river clean up. I realize that with winter coming, it's not a real good time for this activity unless you live in a warm state, but for those in colder states and nations, perhaps you could mark your calendars for May to revisit the vid and start getting ready to launch this activity for each one of the summer months. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RtIcALjW3I&feature=fvhl

That's great Nut! thanks for posting......it's funny that just today, I went for a walk to the river nearby and this time I walk a little bit more into the woods....and like always, I found garbage that people left behind. I hate that so much! Why these people even care about taking a walk into the the woods and river if they disrespect nature so much? Anyway I collect all the garbage that I found and on my way back, there were a group of kids drinking soda, and eating in the place where I found the garbage awhile before and it got my nerves.....cause you can see right away who's responsible and who's doesn't give a s...t and who's educated and who's not.....I told them "please take your garbage with you after you're done". I hope they did but who knows....

Norma, I'm sorry you hate snow. There is so much beauty in it's sound and form, and there's so much fun to be had with it. GiveIn, good work! Let's hope your comment to the kids made a difference in at least one of them

Norma, you're not the only one... snow gets on my nerves by the time it gets to 2 feet or more. That means lots of shovelling for me, which will be more difficult because of my bad knee. Not to mention icy sidewalks and driving on icy roads.
Luckily, we only have one inch now. Problem with that is, the damn cold! Right now it's -15 F and getting colder.

Yeah...my outerwear is good to twenty five below and I don't shovel. I use the tractor to plow. If I got annoyed with anything over two feet, I'd be annoyed the first time it snowed and stay that way all winter. It drifts up to twelve feet out here.
I find life is harder when we fight it. Things are so much easier when we find a way to flow with whatever is going on. If snow makes you cold, put on warmer clothes. If the roads are slick, get good tires or put chains on your tires and allow extra time so you can drive more slowly. Why scrape the car? You can start it up and turn on the heat, lock the door and take the lock key with you and let it warm itself up while you get ready for work. There's no need to suffer through it.
Mary Ann, you can afford to hire someone to shovel for you.
There is always a way around. Experience is necessary - suffering is optional. It's all about perception and choice. Snow is a blessing. It brings warmth to the earth during a period of extreme cold. It keeps many plants and animals from dying in the cold. It provides much needed source of water to the earth, especially in the spring, and it provides habitat to animals that depend upon it for their survival. It is a thing of beauty and gorgeous to behold.
It is really only an annoyance to people...who have a tendency to expect that everything will be easy and convenient and that the earth should stop functioning like the earth because it's bothersome to the people that are infecting it.
Perception. Choice. Flexibility. Flow.

I'm not saying snow isn't beautiful... I have always appreciated nature, the changing of the seasons, the beauty.
But most winters have been extremely hard on me, with memories of frozen fingers, frozen ears, traffic accidents or other trauma. It's no wonder I can't stand it. I prefer to become a hermit, to cocoon myself at home where I feel safe and warm.

Those are memories, not current experiences. Get past it. Heal. Move forward. Don't hide Breathe...it will be ok Healing: Acknowledge, Accept, Embrace, Release. What's the best that could happen? What would your life be like if, every year, you were able to look forward to winter with the anticipation of joy rather than the dread of experiences past? Would that be better or worse? Only you can decide

Hey Norma and Mal, I just want to give you another picture of snow: Last week, for the first time since my car accident a year ago, I strapped on a little back pack, put on all my warm layers, drove up into the nearby mountain pass with a friend and my dog, strapped on my snowboard split in two to hike up two hours up the side of a pristine mountain...The snow on the trees was a glorious thick icing and the blue sky framed in by sharp peaks was amazing. I talked to Michael on my way up, inviting him to share the beauty with me Stopping near the top, switching my board around, strapping on the goggles and riding down was 15 minutes of pure excitement and fun that I used to get almost daily all winter like a vitamin. At the bottom, my body was tired, but my mind and spirit were satiated. The best part about this for me though was that I could be out there again, that my injuries are healing and my body willing to take me to places that transport my soul and lift me out of the literal and figurative valley fog below. So, while you hate the snow, remember that there is one friend out there whose spirit is being renewed and given hope by it:) Michael thought it was amazing out there too

Karen, how absolutely awesome!!! Personally, I follow Nut and Karen on this. Now granted it gets really cold and my older joints can balk at this, plus there is the snow moval ( we really just move it around <grin>) that can be tiring, but overall there is such beauty to behold that it over rides the negatives for me. I was outside in 50 plus mph wind gusts yesterday trying to break apart the icy junk the plow left at the foot of the drive before it froze more. Now that was some fun. But I smiled rather than cussed because cussing wouldn't change any thing and would only make me feel badly. <grins> Then as the plow came back up the road, I stood at the end of the drive and dared him to dump more there- I also waved good day to him as I understand he's just doing his job and its really not personal. But after I warmed up a bit, went outside with the dogs and played- they are great to have snowball fights with cause they love the snow hitting them and they don't throw it back so I always win- oops LOL Nut so very true!
