Petition link www.mjjsupport.com/uncover/petition.htmlFace book link www.facebook.com/UncoverMJPLEASE Send as email and snail mail Subject: Petition to Uncover Michael Jackson's Name (Gardner Street School Auditorium) Send to this email: superintendent@lausd.net Standardized email below: ------------------------- Snail mail address Ramon C. Cortines- LA Superintendent Los Angeles Unified School District 333 South Beaudry Ave. Los Angels, CA. 90017 Dear Sir: It has been brought to the attention of the local and international communities of Michael Jackson's supporters that the concern regarding the uncovering of the name “Michael Jackson” on the sign above the entrance of the Gardner Street School Auditorium (7450 Hawthorn Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90046) has not been properly addressed with after his acquittal. And sadly, even up to now, months after his death, this issue has not been looked into. We are greatly distressed by this and we would like to take action as a sign of respect for the man and his innocence on the matter, attested by the clearance of charges. We feel that continual covering of his name is unnecessary and very disrespectful. In behalf of all the concerned fans, I would like to ask the management and the school board to remove the cover and reveal the name “Michael Jackson” once more to the public. I believe that it will be a great honor to his memory and a great joy to the Jackson family to know that the school has taken action to clear his name. This may seem like a small thing, but it means a lot to them and to all of us. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this petition. We are looking forward to an immediate response to our plea. Sincerely Yours, (Insert Name Here) (Insert Current Place Here, eg. L.A., California) (Insert email address here [optional])

Great news! The Uncover Michael Jackson's Name group finally gets to meet with the Los Angeles Unified School District board to discuss the uncovering of Michael's name at the Gardner Elementary School's auditorium! This all happens on October 19th at 1:00 p.m. PST, or 3:00 p.m. CST.laschoolboard.org/node/974From their site, you can also see the meeting agenda, which lists the re-naming as item #13. Even better... there is a link on the website to watch the meeting being streamed live! I really hope that we will all be able to watch it as it happens. Oh Happy Day! I've just finished spending about 2 hours on Ustream with the Help Uncover MJ's Name (HUMJN) gang, celebrating our victory! And YES it's OUR VICTORY! Please know that Katherine, Taj Jackson AND Charles Thomson had a hand in this too! Here officially is the News Release, for your reading pleasure FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS RELEASE Contact: Robert Alaniz October 15, 2010 MICHAEL JACKSON’S NAME ON DISPLAY AGAIN AT GARDNER SCHOOL AUDITORIUMElementary School’s Most Famous Alum Recognized for His Musical LegacyLos Angeles - The silver, foot-high letters gleam once again, proclaiming The Michael Jackson Auditorium at Gardner Street Elementary School in Hollywood. It is the last public school attended by Jackson, then an 11-year-old sixth grader who was the lead in a singing group with his brothers. Three months after school started, Motown released their debut album “Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5.” And, the young entertainer was on his way to becoming an international star. “It’s important for the District to value the artistic impact and humanitarian contribution that will be the lasting legacy of Michael Jackson,” said Los Angeles School Board member Steven Zimmer. I’m happy that we will be recognizing and appreciating Michael’s LAUSD moment.” The sign was originally unveiled at the then newly-refurbished auditorium in 1989. However, when the King of Pop was charged with child molestation, the sign was covered with layered board. For the record, the entertainer was never convicted. After his death last year fans began a campaign to have his name revealed. At the direction of Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Ramon C. Cortines, the tribute was uncovered today. “In recognition of Michael Jackson’s musical legacy and contribution to modern culture I have directed our maintenance and operations department to remove the layered board covering the tribute to Mr. Jackson at Gardner Street Elementary School in Hollywood,” said LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines. Also, scroll down to see the NEW picture! Very happy tears! www.mj-777.com/?p=5945

TMZ just posted the following, with no stupid comments about MJ... imagine that! www.tmz.com/2010/10/16/michael-jackson-gardner-street-elementary-school-sign/Most of the comments are glowing, and I added my own, especially for the haters. Maybe they'll learn something from this: Ahhh the sweet taste of victory... LOVE IT! We have been celebrating since the news broke last nite. Kudos to Katherine and Taj Jackson, and Charles Thomson for working behind the scenes as well as the Help Uncover MJ's Name group. The LAUSD News Release is posted at MJ's Army forum... www.mjsarmy.proboards.com/The Principal of Gardner Street School proudly took all the children to look at Michael's uncovered sign... beautiful! To all the haters, learn the FACTS. Your so called facts are WRONG. Read Aphrodite Jones' book for the TRUTH. +++++++ AND Charles Thomson just published his statement, which was to be read at the LAUSD meeting. THANK YOU so much, Charles! On Saturday 16th October 2010 MY STATEMENT: The US constitution dictates that every American citizen has the right to a fair trial and that until proven guilty, every citizen is presumed innocent. This is a fundamental principle of American life and forms the very basis of the US legal system. Michael Jackson was a US citizen, no different from any other. He had the same rights as any other citizen and when he was exonerated by a jury, he should have walked out of the courtroom with no stain on his character, just like any other US citizen. But Michael Jackson wasn't treated like any other citizen - not before his trial, not during his trial and not after his trial. The prosecution of Michael Jackson was one of the most frivolous wastes of taxpayer money and one of the most horrendous abuses of power in the history of California. In pursuing Jackson, Californian police officers breached the terms of their own search warrants, stole defense do***ents, conducted illegal raids, leaked sealed do***ents to the media, verbally abused Jackson in television interviews and were caught trying to plant fingerprint evidence during grand jury hearings. This was the dictionary definition of a malicious prosecution. After Jackson was acquitted on the basis that the prosecution had no evidence and no compelling witnesses, that should have been the end of the matter. But a combination of manipulative propaganda released by the prosecution and shoddy reporting at the hands of the media meant that Jackson wasn't able to walk out of the Santa Maria courthouse with no stain on his character. He was denied this fundamental right. The continued censorship of Michael Jackson's name on the Gardner Street Auditorium is a continuation of this injustice. Throughout this campaign, staff at Gardner Street School will have heard much about Jackson's charity work and his humanitarian efforts - but in a way, that is all irrelevant. It reads almost as a list of redeeming qualities, but this issue does not call for redeeming qualities. This issue is very simple. Michael Jackson was a US citizen, entitled to the same rights as any and every other US citizen. He was never proven guilty, ergo he was innocent. To continue covering Jackson's name on the Gardner Street Auditorium even after his acquittal is to strongly imply that he was a guilty man. This is unfair, unconstitutional and un-American. Gardner Street School should decide to once again display Michael Jackson's name on its auditorium not on the basis of a petition or a list of humanitarian achievements - but simply because it is the right thing to do. The continued censorship of Jackson's name on the auditorium is a blow against everything that America is supposed to stand for, and a gesture of support for malicious prosecution, abuse of power and the erosion of civil liberties. In brief, to uncover Jackson's name would be a gesture of support for everything the American justice system stands for. To continue censoring Jackson's name would be a gesture of support for everything which is wrong with the American justice system. It is up to the staff of Gardner Street School to decide which of these values they wish to instil in their students. Charles Thomson

Taj posted on Facebook :
On behalf of my grandma, we are thrilled that the “Uncover Michael Jackson’s Name Campaign” has come to a happy conclusion. Here is a direct quote from my Grandma.
“After a number of heartfelt conversations between me, my grandson Taj, family friend Jodi Gomes, and LAUSD, I am overwhelmed that the school will proudly bear my son’s name on its auditorium once again. This could not have been done without the tireless dedication of my son’s fans and specifically the wonderful members of the “Uncover Michael Jackson’s Name Campaign”. I look forward to my joint statement with the school in the coming days and thank you from my heart. Michael would be proud”. – Mrs. Katherine Jackson

Thanks Norma, for posting the beautiful pics and Katherine's message to us. I found the video of that special day 21 years ago, when Michael went back to Gardner Street School to thank the faculty and listen to the children sing. As I watched, I cried, remembering that his joy was so wrongly taken away from him in 2003. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hix3te36CUI&NR=1We won your joy back for you Michael, and for all of us.

More breaking news! Thanks to Catherine's Friday show on Blog Talk Radio, we learned about the Gardner Street School ceremony to uncover Michael's name from their auditorium!
A special ceremony will be held on December 10th, 2010 to once again uncover a brand new gleaming sign - Michael Jackson Auditorium - at Gardner Street Elementary School in Hollywood, California.
This promises to be a HUGE internationally reported event! They will have keynote speakers, the child (a man now) who originally gave Michael the key to their school, the principal who thanked Michael, his grade school teacher and many others will be there to help celebrate this auspicious occasion, as well as Katherine Jackson and other family members!
The reason this is so incredible is because the mainstream press barely mentioned the uncovering in October, but now they will have to accept it happening, will have to report on it and will have to celebrate it! If they don't, our MJ fan community will be there to defend him!

When the uncovering ceremony was postponed last December it was supposedly until June 2011. Well, it's almost June now. Any news on if/when this ceremony will take place?

Hi Iris, unfortunately I haven't heard a peep about this. Maybe one of us should contact the HUMJN group for some info on that. It's obviously been postponed indefinitely, otherwise I would have heard something more. They are needing donations again, because the following was just tweeted today: Guardian elementary school who uncovered MJs name is in need of supplies and/or cash donations 4 the children. t.co/fmb5KAtPlease give if you can!

Oh, well. A ceremony would have been SO nice, but of course the most important thing is that his name has been uncovered.
